The Romero Canyon trail starts in Catalina State Park, about ten miles north of Tucson. I got to the trailhead around 6am, when there was barely light enough to see the trail. Luckily the first mile is very open, smooth and sandy, and there was enough light to make out the trail signs! Venus is the bright object in the predawn sky.
